Welcome to Rachel Farrell Counselling

Counselling & Psychotherapy for Individuals

Hello and welcome. My name is Rachel Farrell and I am a Brighton-based counsellor. I provide short and long-term therapy to adults both face-to-face in Central Brighton and nationwide online using Zoom.

I work with people from all walks of life, coming to me with a diverse range of issues – those seeking an ally with whom to explore some of their life’s most pressing challenges.

Talking to a trained professional can help us make sense of challenging times and offers a way through them, moving towards a better understanding of ourselves, our patterns and our feelings.

I believe that your therapy begins the moment you start to search for a therapist. It means you've recognised that you need some help and have taken the crucial first step on your journey to growth, change and improving your mental health and wellbeing.

Please read on to find out more about how we could work together.

About my Practice

My practice is grounded in Person-Centred values: I believe that the client is the expert on their own experiences, thoughts and feelings. My role isn't to label, fix or give advice, but to meet the client as they are with empathy, honesty and without judgement as they explore what matters.

My work is Integrative because I draw from knowledge and experience of different psychotherapeutic models and skills. No single method fits everyone, so we work to your agenda: your needs, aims and goals.

It is Relational because I believe that the relationship that I help to build with clients is one of the most important and transformational aspects of effective therapy.

I live with a physical disability and have worked with a broad range of adults and young adults with different abilities. Although I have a disability, I'm not defined by it, and neither is my work.

I'm passionate about diversity and aim to make my practice as accessible and inclusive as possible.

Here are some of the issues I can offer support with:

A Holistic and Mindful Approach

I work holistically with clients – looking at the mind/body, family, friendships and other significant relationships, cultural and ancestral heritage, intersectionality, beliefs and diversity. I’m influenced by Eastern philosophy and can offer a Mindfulness-based approach if appropriate, offering holistic methods tailored to each person. I believe that if we approach them mindfully, our vulnerabilities can become our strengths.

A Creative and Flexible Way of Working

I'm an artist, and can bring creativity, humour and playfulness into the work we do together, if and when it is appropriate. I can offer short or long-term therapy - and this often comes organically, as we begin to build a working relationship.

My Location

I work from Brighton and see clients from across East and West Sussex, Surrey, Greater London, Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

In addition to face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions via Zoom for clients in the wider area and across the UK. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.

Fees & Availability

Counselling sessions for individuals last 50 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis, and cost £55 per session. I also provide a limited number of spaces for those on low-income or for trainees; contact me to enquire about availability.

Note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 24 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment in cash or card in person, by PayPal or by bank transfer.

My practice rooms for in-person therapy are wheelchair accessible, with accessible facilities.

Initial Consultation

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation, usually over the phone or online, in which we can talk about the issues that are troubling you. There we can decide if we feel we can work with one-another.

If we decide to work together, our first session will include some information gathering and a brief assessment which will help us decide how and where to begin.

Get in touch

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how therapy works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.

You can also call me on 07999 834 544 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.

All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
